Hey, Botany Buddies! Your Botany Babe has still been creating. In fact, she's branched into using digital art to explore her imagination and branch out in her realm of freedom. The style of pop culture has somewhat become her next object of fascination. Not to say she studied it, nor planned it. It's simply what her hands are leading her to create, which must mean, it's authentically her.

I'm pleased to say, no screen or online image is the source of my inspiration for these particular art pieces. I have been obtaining reinvigoration from the world around me. Part of my secular job is landscaping and so as you can predict, I see flowers and plants everywhere I go. If I was trying to get away from it, I couldn't. So, just as nature is overflowing in my field of vision, it overflows in my field of artwork.

As for the lovely ladies in these portraits, I have been honoured enough to be able to draw inspiration from my own dear friends; ones I've grown up with or have had the pleasure of meeting along the way. They have become special to me in one way or another, bringing light into my life where it was previously duller than I'd have preferred, and for which, I am utmost grateful.

My new series is entitled "The Landlord's Garden." This is the first piece among the collection I have released. It is available in my Etsy Shop as a DIY printable for you. If I had a fireplace mantle, I know exactly what I'd use to decorate it with!

So, calling all book lovers, flower lovers, autumn/fall lovers, decorators/interior designers, moms, daughters, etc. etc. - Come and get it!

How to Decorate for Autumn

Scents. Textures. Warmth. Lastly, and most importantly, personalization. Something to make you feel at home. I don't know about you, but when my walls are bare, there's something missing. Sure, you might have blankets and candles, but without art hanging on the wall, it doesn't feel the same.

A wall is similar to that of a blank canvas... waiting to be used as an extension of your personality. Whether it's ivy, a shelf, twinkle lights or artistic illustrations, they must be embellished.

It adds a certain artistic and mature flair to your environment. You can admire it from a distance, or admire it up close. When company comes over, it's a conversation piece. "So, who did this?" they'll ask. "I love how you've decorated your home" they'll say... One of the greatest compliments to the hostess.

Modern. Botanical. Aesthetic. Hygge. Science. All of these adjectives were in mind as I drew each line. I hope this finds its way to you. Visit my Etsy Shop to download one for yourself!

Once you've printed it, send me a picture on my Instagram or message me through Etsy.

The Peter Rabbit Theme

Bunny Rabbit Printable, Blue Background: Graphite Pencil Illustration (5 JPGs) Country & Farmhouse Wall Decor image 1

I think you've found the perfect baby gift for your friend. This bunny rabbit printable would be an easy and fast DIY project for you to print for that baby shower that's coming up quicker than you expected.

But, let's be real here. You don't need to have a kid or even know someone who's having a kid, to want this little guy with shiny black eyes in your home. But, where did he come from?

My husband and I decided to move to the countryside about half a year ago. "Naturally", I asked for a farm animal drawing before we moved so we could have something to hang in our new place to make it feel official. "Any baby farm animal" were my words to be precise... And along came Peter. I wanted to get deeper into the countryside farm girl aesthetic that is so clearly a part of who I was already.

Boy, did this accomplish that. Right now, he sits on my counter right next to the flower vase and stack of books--a new series I actually am waiting to read once I finish my current novel. Every time I walk past Peter, he makes me want to cozy up with a warm beverage, one of those books, and just let the hours slip... or should I say "sip"... away slowly. You know, when you're so in the moment that you feel the time in a good way.

Vist my Etsy Shop to download one for you, and your friends/family members. That's just it, with this download, you can gift it to as many friends as you wish. So, hop to it! You'll make my husband smile, and let's face it, yourself.

Wild Flower Botanical Portrait

This piece is rather significant to me. Why? It was the starting point of my entrepreneurial journey of creating Botany Babes. The concept, style, idea of all the other pieces in my shop have stemmed from this one piece!

How it was made? I started with softly sketching the portrait. Then, it was shaded with different graphite pencils. Flowing around the girl, I knew there had to be something beautiful--in came in the delicate flowers. The light watercolour wash was added after, and I enjoyed watching the pigment gently flood areas of the page. To finish it off, pencil crayon was applied to add contrast and depth to the piece. And, there you go, with a signature written in, the piece was done.

When was it made? This botanical portrait was hand drawn in my sketchbook a few years back when I was in high school. My parents taught me artistic skills from a young age, which therefore turned my pastime into a passion by the time I reached teen-hood. I remember creating the piece with inspiration, all the while hoping that one day, not only would I get to enjoy the finished product, but others, too! Now that's possible.

What inspired it to be made? This piece gives me an outlet for two of my greatest passions, that of art and nature. Incorporating botanicals allows me to express my interest in nature artistically. It is a way to remind myself and others that there is always beauty to be inspired by no matter our circumstance.

What's the story behind it being made? The flowers I watercoloured weren't just from any ordinary picture. These were actually referenced from flowers that grew at my Nona's house. I simply had to take a snapshot--to take the beauty with me when I left. Every time I go back and visit, I still see them in the same pot, bringing me back to the first time I saw them.

All in all, this was the piece that started this journey of mine, was a pleasure to make, holds a part of my past, inspires me to look at the beauty in life, and combines two of my greatest interests into one. And, now, it is my pleasure to have made it into a digital download, so that you may carry it with you on your own journey, whatever it may be.

art print - botanical portrait

available for download.

this new botanical portrait is available for download in my shop!
i created this by hand originally in my sketchbook using watercolour and graphite pencils.
then i scanned it in and edited it precisely. it is now a 5x7 piece that you can purchase and print to decorate your home, or hang for inspiration in your studio!

rosa chinesis. the "flower pick with me" series.

this one originally grew up in southwest china. throughout the years, its shown its true potential. yes, it does more than inspire beauty on its beholder.

what it grew up to be.
it has come to the rescue for those in pain many times. how? it treats sprains, wounds, arthritis and even cancer. full of vitamins, it is a healthy, nutritious one.

what it appears to be.
now that you've come to know its personality and profession, you must desire to know what such a powerful flower can look like. without it being persuaded, it naturally becomes a busy shrub. but, with a little motivation, it can climb ten feet tall on its strong branch of a purplish hue.
the flower itself blooms into an intense pink, with delicate yet determined petals reaching out as a group. a few leaves accompany each flower for support.

what allows it to be.
it likes being in the spotlight of the sun in springtime, but can do with a little shade. no matter the soil of its upbringing, it thrives. one would say, a fairly easy going flower.

that's all for today but...hey, if you're a true botanist and want a copy, go and get it to hang in your own home!
